Qtractor - A MIDI/Audio multi-track sequencer

Midi Keyboard Recording/Playback

Forums

Another newbie here. New to Qtractor and digital music production in general.

My goal is to record my Yamaha P-85 keyboard to Track #1 then record to Track #2 while listening to Track #1, in effect simulating a duet. So far I haven't been able to do this. Is it possible?

I'm running Qtractor (0.9.34). MIDI interface is M-Audio Midisport 2x2. OS is Fedora 38 (recent version, uses Pipewire).

midi tempo and meter import problems

Forums

I have long found that Qtractor handles almost everything surrounding midi import very well except for tempo and meter changes in midi files. I can import a midi file exported from notation (musescore) into Ardour and all meter and tempo changes will be accurately mapped. I seem to recall older iterations of Qtractor that would do fairly well, mapping these data points, but now I see that it seems to ignore all changes in tempo and meter outside of the initial one.

Persistent Mixer Window?

Forums

Hi! Regardless of enabling the "always on top" option, the mixer window hides itself whenever I access a track plugin. For example, I open a parametric EQ, and when I click on it, the mixer window disappears. I need to be able to sweep the frequencies on the EQ while I monitor the gain levels. I'm on Ubuntu Studio, if that helps.

Is this a WM (window manager) issue or should I change something else in Qtractor?

Thanks!
HIji

Inconsistent session sample rates

Forums

If I have jackd and Qjackctl running with session sample rate set to 44100Hz, and I then create a new Qtractor session, it also shows a session rate of 44100 as I would expect.

But if I save and then reload the Qtractor session, I get an error message saying that "The original session sample rate (44100Hz) is not the same as the current audio engine (48000Hz)."

Punch in/out - problem replacing part of an audio track

Forums

I have experimented with Punch In/Out on an audio track. I soon discovered that if I re-record a short section of an already recorded track, the new version is superimposed on the original. It does not, as I expected, replace it.

I found this thread: https://www.rncbc.org/drupal/node/2081 from somebody who had a similar problem. This explains that I need to listen to the original track whilst recording the relevant passage on a new track. OK, fine.

shortcuts for clip selection per track.

Forums

Getting close to mouse free editing now. With that intent, I have a question.

I can select tracks up and down with shortcuts.

I can open the piano roll editor, and close it, with shortcuts.

What I can't seem to do is select a track, and have the clip selected as well, for that track, automatically. (I have one clip per track, about 90 bars long, for a full orchestra project)

Have I missed something in the shortcuts list, or is this essential feature not implemented yet?

Alex.

Monitoring seems confused

Forums

Of course, it is not QTractor's monitoring that is confused (I assume), but I certainly am.

Mostly to try to learn how to use QTractor, I have been trying to record myself playing a trio. (I also have a MIDI project I have been experimenting with.)

I recorded a guide track, and then recorded each of the 3 instrumental parts, listening to the guide track and/or the previously recorded instrumental track(s) if any. I was using an earpiece to listen to the previously recorded material.

Decode Plugin Chunk

Forums

I recently moved systems, and plugin-specific settings (within Carla) have disappeared; probably because of differing plugin paths. However, I'd like to decode that chunk in the QTR file to get clues about what the plugin settings were. Specifically, I'm referring to what I see between the "configs" > "config key=.." AND "/config" < "configs".

Is this possible? I'm assuming the decoded chunk will have some kind of human-readable language.

Thank you.
