pencil in draw mode deleting previous CCs

Hello,
is it possible, when using the pencil in draw mode to make midi cc events, to delete previous events in that position?

As it is now, if I have some midi events that make a certain curve and want to change it, I first have to delete them, then redraw it. It wouldn't be much of a hassle if it weren't that usually to get the right curve I have to do lots of trials and errors, and just being able to draw without first deleting would be a good usability improvement IMHO

general speaking the answer is yes and no. :)

if you want to delete, you must select those events and just hit the damn button, whatever.

otoh, if what you really want is to override existing events, that is, while you move the mouse as in painting over canvas, then make sure the snap-to-beat (or is it to-grid?) is in effect and does apply to your likings and then, just go for the run.. woohoo

if you think i'm not giving you a chance, please just say and drop here a note ;)

cheers && happy holidays

yeah, I would like to override existing events... I'm not sure I understand what you're saying - I tried and existing events never get overriden by the new ones, they just stay there both; of course visually you only see the higher one, but if I delete it I still see the lower one.

I monitored the output with qmidiroute and I saw that, if two events are overlayed, both get outputted, in the order they were entered in

For me, this is the reason not to use QTractor. You are doing great work, but drawing controllers a smooth way is a must. I'm recording a lot of them, so i will edit a lot of them. To keep the current functionallity in combinations with our requests, i recommend layers for cc (and other controller types).

painting is about creating new events, like throwing real paint onto a canvas (think Pollock:) -- fundamentally that is indeed equivalent to having a new layer, so to speak.

to edit existing events (the ones already placed hard, either from recording, hand insertion or painted before, it is no business for the pencil tool, yet.

i am sorry if i teased you in the wrong direction :)

again, the pencil tool can hardly serve to edit existing events--unless there's a strict and precise timing between the snap-to-grid and each target event, which is somewhat a side-effect from the MIDI spec--there cannot be two events of same type and channel at the same exact time.

anyhow, maybe it would be nice to give some constructive ideas on some effective free-hand editing as against to just paint new events around ;)

what you think?

cheers
