Is Synthv1 the most stable soft synth for Qtractor?

I wanted to use Helm but Qtractor froze crashed when I tried to choose preset. (Although that was on Arch, I've recently switched back to Ubuntu Studio and haven't tried it again yet. And yes I uninstalled the old Ubuntu Studio 0.9.. Qtractor version and got the latest one from git)

Synthv1 seems like the most stable soft synth option for Qtractor.

hi, can't answer the question as it would sound a bit biased... :)

besides it being tested first on qtractor, of course, there's no reason that would make it only partially true...

there are a lot of other soft-synths out there, and then a more recent build to helm and/or qtractor might do wonders, hopefully ;)

but let others speak before taking conclusions

cheers

thank you for replying!

when i used to use lmms on widows years back, i fell in love with one Synth1 vst and used it as my main soft synth for years. I learned and improved a lot on it.

now that i'm trying foss music production, I think i'll play around with Synthv1 to see if I can feel confident enough with it to use it as my main soft synth. Especially since I'm already in love with Qtractor.

thank you for all the wonderful open source audio software sir as well as for offering honest advice to a stranger like myself!

Besides the great Synthesizer Suite created by Rui, I've had very good performance experience with Yoshimi.
So much for general purpose synths (which I think is why you ask).

Then for more peculiar sounds,
Whysynth is a DSSI FM-type synthesizer with very good performance and very interesting presets.

ADLMIDI and OPNMIDI emulate vintage Yamaha chips like those of the Sega Megadrive (Genesis) and consume few resources.

Amsynth is also light.

Calf monosynth and Calf Organ also have excellent performance and very cool presets.

These are the ones I have installed. I prefer to have few and reliable ones.

This website has a list with almost all the synths available for Linux:
https://linuxsynths.com/index.html

is this the plugins you're referring to? https://kx.studio/Repositories:Plugins#adlplug they do seem pretty cool. Thanks for the recommendation! I'll try them out ASAP. I love simple FM soft synths. Back on Windows i used to use ones I found from here, and even Synth1 vst had a simple FM feature that really spiced up the sound design. Thanks, again for the recommendations. also found https://kx.studio/Repositories:Plugins#whysynth

Yes, and this one too

Calf MonoSynth?
I'm not a synth expert, but I do know that I personally like the sounds it generates.

Interface errors with Calf plugins occur in the appimage version of Qtractor, at least in my experience.
It doesn't occur in the installable version or when compiling.

Rui provides installables for most Linux OS here:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:rncbc/qtractor

Look for your OS on the right.

It's the development version, not the stable one, but Rui's development versions are usually just as stable as the stable ones.
So you'll also be able to enjoy the new features before they come out.

Anyway, everything seems to indicate that you've already found your general purpose battle synth and it's Synthv1 :).
You can also download it from the same site:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:rncbc/synthv1

Amsynth is also stable, but seems less versatile than Synthv1 at least to a noob like myself. Apologies again, this was on Arch, but Calf plugin UIs just wouldn't open in Qtractor unless I used Carla first. But I haven't testest that again either since i recently switched to Ubuntu Studio. Arch's pro-audio package had JuceOPL which was good for peculiar FM sounds, on my new Ubuntu Studio installation I'll try things out from https://kx.studio/Repositories:Plugins. It also has JuceOPL. Yes I've downloaded all the free ones from http://linuxsynths.com, but obviously only have tried less than a handful since I just recently got back into music production. Thank you for all the suggestion!l

I didn't know Calf monosynth was a serious soft synth... ?
