Amsynth is also stable, but seems less versatile than Synthv1 at least to a noob like myself.
Apologies again, this was on Arch, but Calf plugin UIs just wouldn't open in Qtractor unless I used Carla first. But I haven't testest that again either since i recently switched to Ubuntu Studio.
Arch's pro-audio package had JuceOPL which was good for peculiar FM sounds,
on my new Ubuntu Studio installation I'll try things out from https://kx.studio/Repositories:Plugins. It also has JuceOPL.
Yes I've downloaded all the free ones from http://linuxsynths.com, but obviously only have tried less than a handful since I just recently got back into music production.
