have the notion first, that qmidinet should run in the background and its GUI is only accessible as in the system-tray (aka notification-area in some DEs, like, uh-oh,... gnome)
this is no matter it's the AppImage or the native built binary/package.
anyway, idk what you really wishing to achieve but, once qmidinet is up and running, you'll need to make some connections (via JACK or ALSA-MIDI) using your preferred or favorite connection manager and so called patchbay, eg. qjackctl, qpwgraph, raysession, carla, patchage, etc. your choice.
