Using Qjackctl to connect Hydrogen drum machine to Ableton Live 8 Lite.

Forums

Hello! I have a small request for help on something I've been working on these past few days.

I want to be able to use Hydrogen as a drum machine in Ableton Live 8 Lite and connect it via Qjackctl to send the output of Hydrogen to a channel input in Ableton. I downloaded and installed Qjackctl and have the window open and ready, except that whenever I press Start, it gives me the error message:

"Could not start JACK.

Sorry."

and this code message:

12:24:00.596 Startup script...
12:24:00.597 artsshell -q terminate
Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
Cannot connect to server request channel
jack server is not running or cannot be started
sh: artsshell: command not found
12:24:01.000 Startup script terminated with exit status=32512.
12:24:01.000 JACK is starting...
12:24:01.000 jackd -dalsa -dhw:0 -r48000 -p256 -n2
12:24:01.015 Could not start JACK. Sorry.
12:24:04.038 JACK was stopped with exit status=255.
12:24:04.039 Post-shutdown script...
12:24:04.039 killall jackd
No matching processes belonging to you were found
12:24:04.445 Post-shutdown script terminated with exit status=256.

Could anyone help me or give me any advice? Either so, if there's a way to connect both programs without so many roundabouts, I'd love to read any suggestions, but please explain to me in as much detail as possible. I'm still a bit new to using audio this way.

I'm using a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.10.2 (Yosemite).

Thank you very much. Hope to get a response soon! :)

sorry but i know nothing about Mac OSX.

you're trying to run jackd (jack audio server) from qjackctl with its default settings, which are only legal on Linux systems.

for instance, one thing i'm pretty sure: "alsa" is NOT going to work ever on anything but Linux; maybe it works if you change driver to the proper one, "coreaudio" ?

hth.
cheers
