Transport Shortcut

Forums

Hi Rui,

we have connected 2 computers together through the network and use JackTransport to guide QTractor. This works well, and in a music session, we are constantly switching the Transport Mode between None and Full. We set it to None when one of us wants to do some work in QTractor without being disturbed by the other, and when he is ready he links back in by setting the Transport Mode to Full.

Because we switch a lot between the 2 Transport Modes, we wondered if it possible to assign a key shortcut to it, for example N for None and F for Full?

no it is not currently possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to any of the JACK Transport modes (None, Slave, Master, Full).

knowing that a similar request has been already filed on github.com issue #37, this might come true in the future, as a brand new Transport > Mode sub-meu on main menu and possibly as a new drop-down tool-button as well.

the effect of this solution--when it gets solved that is--will allow you to assing any keyboard shortcut you want, through Help > Shortcuts... as usual.

cheers

well, there's good news on today's git head, qtractor 0.8.0.40git.3913ee and beyond... pasting from the commit change-log:

  • Current session (JACK) transport mode option switching is now being made accessible, from the main menu and drop-down toolbar buttons, as well as user configurable PC-keyboard and/or MIDI controller shortcuts (cf. Transport/Mode/None, Slave, Master, Ful). (EXPERIMENTAL)

just have a peek, visually:

hth.

This is good news, Rui. This will facilitate the workflow nicely! Linking in and out the JackTransport system will be easy this way - thank you very much.

The latest version 0.8 has recently become available in the KXStudio repo.
We are thinking about building QTractor ourselves, so we can have access to this beta version. but will have to find a bit more courage to start the adventure :)
