Automation for jack connected synths

Hi. Can someone please suggest a way to send automation signals to an external synth (not a plug in) connected with jack to qtractor? I use Yoshimi mostly and haven't found a way to do this. Perhaps sending MIDI control messages is an option but I haven't been able to make it work.

yes, MIDI controller messages is probably the only option.
however this ought to be configured on the external synth side. you then play the "automation" MIDI sequence from the sequencer side of course and provide the routing to the external synth via it's MIDI control input interface port which might be distinct from the regular MIDI input port, just a thought.
