Hi all. I'm very new to Qtractor and have yet to have it do what I want to do. Basically, I want to have a midi track sent out to my midi keyboard and have the keyboard play the notes in the Qtractor midi track. The way I understand it, in the connections window I have to connect Qtractor to my midi output to send to my keyboard. The problem is that I can't make the connection!
My computer has an onboard sound 'card', (Intel 82801G) and I am using a E-MU Xmidi1x1 usb midi device to connect to the keyboard. The connection window's midi tab shows:
14:Midi Through
20:E-MU Xmidi1x1 Tab Midi 1
128:Qtractor
in both panes. I presume that what I want to do is to connect Qtractor in the left pane to E-MU Xmidi1x1 in the right pane but it will not let me do this. I can however connect Qtractor to Midi Through. I don't seem to be able to make *any* connections to or from the E-MU device.
These little problems always seem to be a result of a short circuit between my ears so I will be the first to admit that I have probably missed something that is total obvious somewhere. I'm hoping that someone out there will be more knowledgeable about this and perhaps clear up the short circuit so I can make some music!
Cheers.
Re: Midi connections
Hello thirteen_engines,
And what if you try making the connection in the ALSA tab of the Connections window of QjackCtl (assuming you use QjackCtl to start JACK)?
Best,
Jeremy
Re: Midi connections
What's the MIDI driver you're telling
jackd
to use (ie. the-X
command line option) ?If it's
-X raw
then that explains it: all external MIDI ports most probably will get owned and locked to JACK-MIDI backend and there's no way you can handle connections on those from the ALSA-MIDI side of things, not even from QjackCtl ALSA tab for that matter.I'll suggest you to get rid of the
-X raw
JACK-MIDI setup, and bring either-X seq
or better yet all arounda2jmidid
into the scene .Cheers
Re: Midi connections
Super! Changing to -X seq did the trick! Thanks a bunch for your help.
