yes, you already found the probably only way to unsubscribe from a forum topic or thread. And yes, I do also find it all cumbersome to say the least.
problem is that this new drupal module is a bucket full a lot of shortcomings when compared with the old one. Trouble is, there is no upgrade path to the old one, which has been discontinued this way.
now, if I get enough down-votes from some of you, I can just disable and ultimately uninstall it altogether.
meanwhile, also yes, if you comment on a thread you'll get subscribed automagically again, I guess :)
