Thanks for reply. Yes, I think I understand the taking away of dependencies... what I wonder about (mostly from my lack of actual experience with) is that there seem to be dependencies which certain programs *share,* seems rather like the domino effect... (?).
Well, anyway, I'll first uninstall the old v. of qjackctl then do the new one. See what happens. If I come back, with a :( on my face, you'll know things may not have worked out so well :) & I realize that your qjackctl program is a "wrapper" for jack, & my problem, I too suspect may lay with ubuntu/jack/, et al... i.e., lower layers some where. I would just go to ubuntu studio, if I wasn't chained to a very slow dial-up connection here. Oh well, back to the "rubberband."

p.s., are you at all familiar with OMS (the one referred to in first msg) ? The Opcode folk got the shaft from Gibson Guitar who bought it & promptly dropped it. OMS was used by most Mac audio/midi programs. Wonder if any of the programmers (who were very upset about what happened) are out & about. Seems to me, open source was their preferred direction (?).
