well, gentoo might not be grabbing the source tree from latest and greatest then... quite frankly i cannot tell what's stopping you from...

what about making yourself part of the gentoo gang and try it first on your side? then compare your (successful) instructions and suggest for a correct gentoo ebuild (?is that what it's called still?)
