now I see the problem. gentoo ebuild is grabbing the sources from cvs, but you're using svn now, so the sources there are probably beyond obsolete.
If I grab the sources myself and build it, than it works. I'm sorry for wasting your time, I'll report it to the ebuild maintainer (if there is one :) ).
Is there any chance, there will be a release soon, so we don't have to rely on -9999 ebuilds or manual builds?
Maybe you could kill the cvs, so the build simply fails and it forces someone to fix the ebuild :)
