In general, all clip properties (audio and midi) should be assigned as a group if there are multiple clips selected.
This is not the first time I have cut up a clip to clean it up, and when I have wanted to apply a gain change to a part of the arrangement, I have had to go clip by clip modifying.
It is true that automation can be applied for these cases, but I find it more comfortable, simple, controllable and visual to assign the gain directly to the clip.
