Hello all,
I am using amSynth and Qtractor together, and am wondering how you can control amSynth from inside Qtractor.
I was hoping to change different amSynth variables e.g. attack and decay by modifying Qtractor's graph for velocity, controller etc. So I could write a song in Qtractor and all the different knobs in amSynth would change as the song played...
I am using amSynth as the master/in for Qtractor
Sorry if confusing. Any ideas?
re. Modifying amSynth's parameters in Qtractor
how are you driving amSynth frpm Qtractor, exactly?
a) if in the form of a plugin you should look into automation (MIDI track, "A" button drop-down menu, select the desired amSynth parameter and there you go:))
b) is in some stand-alone form, your best bet is driving it from one or more MIDI tracks and edit respective MIDI performance and controller sequences over the recognized MIDI channel.
cheers
Hello,
Hello,
thankyou greatly for reply. I have tried method a) and I can modify amSynth Pan and Volume, however I like to modify specific things in amSynth like filter resonance. I am not so sure what you mean by method b), please explain.
Qtractor and amSynth are connected with Catia (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71674154/L/Qtractor/Catia.png).
I want to modify different knobs on amSynth (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71674154/L/Qtractor/amSynth.png) by changing a clip's graph on Qtractor (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71674154/L/Qtractor/Qtractor.png).
However if you have different setup that fixes problem or similar synth that can be controlled better by Qtractor please mention.
Again, thankyou for reply, please keep helping.
re. Modifying amSynth's parameters in Qtractor
if an amsynth instance is being inserted as a LV2 plugin on a MIDI track, then you should access any of its parameters as from the "A" button drop-down menu, Select -> amSynth -> parameter...
which part do you miss there?
[UPDATE:] just figured out now that you're running amSynth as what i called a stand-alone instance, so definitely you'll need to go with option b) above and there try assigning a MIDI controller to the knobs or parameters in question and make the MIDI data to control them as part of the performance itself in the MIDI clip (in qtractor).
of course this option only works iif amSynth (or Catia) makes MIDI controller mapping available--also called "MIDI learn"--something that you'll have to ask to the amSynth/Catia authors if not readily from their manual docs:)
hth.
cheers
Thanks
I see, I have been opening amSynth separately, I will try as opening a plugin so I can use method a). I will also have a look at Catia controller mapping, I believe it has it. Thankyou for good support, and for Qtractor.
