Note-Off for external midi devices

Hey Rui,
Now, as I tried to use an extenal synth (Yamaha TG-33) together with qtractor i stumbled over the following issue: When I stop playback in qtractor, while playing some long notes under the cursor, the note-off event seems not to be sent out to the synth. This means, that my TG-33 never stops playing the last sound. Is that an issue, located to qtractor? Or did I forget some settings in qtractor? Or is my TG-33 just tooo stupid? But I think, i realized the same behavior for some VST instruments....
regards .... and HEAD UP !!! (as i do think, qtractor has the chance to become a really good application....)

Welcome back.

Indeed, Note-off events are not sent when you pause or stop playback. However, last time I've checked, there's a ALL SOUNDS OFF and ALL NOTES OFF channel events that are issued when you stop transport/playback. That should do, most of the cases, provided your hardware respond to those events legally ;)

Aha, there's a catch however, the above is only effective when you have an instrument definition assigned. It can be a dummy instrument definition or you can try working it out with something specific to your TG-33. Try here:
CakewalkNet Instrument Definitions. In particular, your Yamaha TG-33 might be included in this archive

VSTis are another story :)

Cheers

Hey ... i didn't even know, that the instrument definition is more like a standard, than your own implementation. I thought of making a definition file for my TG-33, but now, there's really one in there already. Great. I'll try that out.

You're right ... for VSTi's the problem is only sporadic and not really reproducable .... so i would say: There's no problem ;-) Keep on rockin ...

Hi Rui,
I added the TG-33 file to the instrument definition. Really nice. Unfortunately it didn't help in solving the problem with the all notes off event? May it be, that this issue is to aim at my TG-33? Or is there another trap for the ALL NOTES OFF not being sent?

It might just happen that the TG-33 does not respond to ALL NOTES OFF (CC#123) nor ALL SOUND OFF (CC#120). Meanwhile, make sure those events are actually sent from the output MIDI bus ports, using eg. aseqdump .
