It would be great to have the ability to remove (or even just hide) the following icons from our beloved transport:
- Backward
- Rewind
- Fast Forward
- Forward
These icons are different in that they do not represent a current state of things. For example, when looping, the user benefits from seeing the "state" of the loop button. The same is true for Play, Record, etc.... (one could argue the Stop button should follow suit here and be displayed accordingly).
So back to the 4 buttons mentioned earlier. These do not represent a state and only exist in order to accommodate a mouse-driven workflow. People who navigate via keybindings have no reason to click on these buttons (ever). Essentially, these navigation buttons just take up screen real estate for no reason. In fact, when we take a closer look, we also realize an opportunity exists to remove the spacing/padding surrounding both the loop and punch icons.
